That's a symptom of poor data orchestration, and it means the foundation that AI agents need to operate on is fundamentally compromised. If your CRM is full of duplicates, stale records, and incomplete fields, your AI agent will confidently generate outputs based on garbage inputs.

AI without clean data is just noise at scale. Before you deploy any agent, audit your CRM for duplicates, data staleness, and field completeness. If your data hygiene score makes you wince, fix that first. Everything else depends on it.

Track the time savings. Track the quality of outputs. Track how reps feel about using it (because if they hate it, they'll stop). Compare metrics before and after: call prep time, outbound response rates, CRM data completeness.
Step 4: Prove the ROI, Then Expand
Once you have hard numbers showing that your first workflow is delivering value, you've earned the credibility to expand. Take those results to leadership, get buy-in for the next workflow, and repeat the process.
The Starting Checklist
Before deploying your first AI agent, make sure you can check these boxes: (1) Your CRM data has been audited for duplicates and staleness, (2) You've identified one specific workflow with clear inputs and outputs, (3) You have a baseline measurement of current performance, (4) You've defined what "success" looks like in concrete numbers, (5) You have a human review step built into the process.
The Clean Data Prerequisite
We keep coming back to data quality because it is genuinely the make-or-break factor for AI in RevOps. It's not the exciting part. Nobody writes blog posts about data cleansing because it's tedious and unglamorous. But it is the foundation everything else rests on.
Before you deploy any AI agent, run a basic audit:
- Duplicates: How many duplicate contacts and companies exist in your CRM? Merge them.
- Staleness: What percentage of records haven't been updated in 90+ days? Flag them for review or archival.
- Field completeness: What's the fill rate on critical fields like job title, company size, industry, and last activity date? If key fields are less than 70% complete, you have a problem.
- Standardization: Are values consistent? ("SaaS" vs "Software as a Service" vs "SAAS" in the same field will confuse any AI agent.)
This audit isn't a one-time exercise either. Data decays constantly. People change jobs, companies get acquired, phone numbers go stale. Build data hygiene into your regular operations cadence, not as a quarterly fire drill, but as an ongoing process that runs in the background.
